Yes it is possible to have a city wedding that is traffic-stopping and romantic!
I recently joined a talented group of British wedding suppliers in London, to explore two different kinds of wedding style! If you are planning a city wedding, take a look at how my Valentina and Aurora bridal gowns each bestowed a different, but equally stunning vibe to our dreamy wedding at St. Paul’s!
St Paul’s Cathedral is the wedding venue of dreams. The contrast of the bustling city and intricate, dreamy dress made for a fantastic end result- the pictures were particularly distinct because of the juxtaposing colours and themes. As a designer, it’s always interesting to see your gowns in an environment they weren’t ‘made’ for because you are reminded that small style changes can sometimes make a radical, but positive, difference to the finished result.
The Valentina Dress
The Valentina outfit consists of a white tulle bustier and skirt, both embellished with lace applique elements and matching arm cuffs. It’s off the shoulder, offering an elegant look which accentuates the neckline, back and shoulders whilst adding a touch of romance and sophistication.
The dress is a mixture of timeless and modern- the two piece is unique, customisable and versatile, whilst traditional elements like the corset-style back, draping tulle and intricate lace details are classic and elegant. It’s a great dress to show how creating a custom gown means you can incorporate all your favourite elements from a traditional gown whilst making it current, sensual and distinctive.
The Aurora Dress
Also included in the shoot was the new short vintage style elopement dress that I worked on with Susan Kennewell.
Its mini length is perfect for an intimate city wedding, an elopement or an evening reception, while its statement bishop sleeves and low back add a sophisticated sensuality.
It looked particularly chic at St Paul’s, with the short length proving perfect for the city bride whilst the bohemian sleeves and intricate lacing still gave the wow-factor you’d expect from a custom made wedding dress.
Susan embroidered all the fabric and then I beaded some of the flowers. Because beauty is in the detail, each flower has been embellished differently, meaning that much like an artwork there are always new elements of the dress to discover. I also think the beads bestow a delicate vintage charm on the dress.
The Shoot
Modesta posted on the Trade for Prints Facebook group for suppliers to join her for an editorial shoot in London. I responded with a link to my website and she chose the Valentina outfit. This was my first shoot with a skeleton supplier list, as it was all about creating a city vibe, rather than a wedding set-up.
It was gloriously sunny, however it was still November in London. Despite the cold, our model Elizabeth posed like a pro, never once complaining, nor allowing her skin to goose-bump. The grumpy security guy at St Paul’s wouldn’t allow us to photograph in the main entrance, but we still got some stunning photos!
The hair and make up was natural and unfussy, just how I love it – allowing Elizabeth’s natural beauty to lead the way. Nicky perfectly created a photo-ready finish, without any “cake-iness”.
Nahama from Mocking bird & Magnolia flowers created a very classic bouquet in the most delicate shades of blush through to pale cream, that worked with both dresses, withstood the entire photoshoot and remained fragrant throughout! It looked great with the stone of St Paul’s, and gave a nostalgic, vintage vibe to the shoot.
It really was the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon, with other enthusiastic wedding creatives, enjoying their skills, creating art, being grateful for their surroundings.
